Marco : Men Magazine

Where did the stereotype of homosexual sailors originate?

Good answer…
Well, homosexuality has always been pretty prevalent in the armed forces and during wartime, where men with no other sexual outlets often turned to one another and attitudes towards homosexuality were slightly relaxed and the behavior was turned a blind eye. Maybe throw in there the [mistaken]idea that Navy men are somehow more feminine and less strong, in a time when such traits were equated with homosexuality, and you’ve got yourself a stereotype, only perpetuated by the Village People.
